On Thursday June 14th, Aldersgate homes presented to the Annual Conference of North Georgia. The board thanked all the churches for their support of the Aldersgate Ministries. Gue’ Hudson, Board President, shared that 80% of families with a child with a disability are unchurched. If one member is not welcome, the entire family does not feel welcome. She encouraged church’s to be open and that accessibility is more than just ramps.
Rev. Anne Hansen, the executive director, shared two new ministries to support individuals with developmental disabilities. “Welcome Home” ministry helps individuals with developmental disabilities who want to live independently with apartment/house set up, which includes deposits, household goods, and furnishings. The second ministry is to provide weekend Retreat/Respite opportunities at Camp Collinswood to allow caregiver’s a weekend off.
Sue Raymond, Board Vice – President, thanked Madison First UMC for their support and help with Camp Collinswood and Snellville UMC for hosting the offices of Aldersgate. Sue encouraged church groups to use Camp Collinswood for retreats.
The Board presented Bishop Sue with a t-shirt.
